Living Heritage Atlas | Mapping Beirut’s Craftsmanship is a design-based research project that contributes to the urban planning discussion on Beirut’s heritage by rendering visible the often-unrecognized social heritage of craftsmanship, with its crafts, public spaces, and local knowledge.
Diverse panelists were invited to sit around a roundtable event that discussed craftsmanship.
Mapping and Activating Beirut’s Crafts
The panel discussed the mobilizing of crafts in shared spaces featured Charbel Tawil (Nusaned), Elena Costantinou (UNESCO), Nanor Karageozian (UN-Habitat), and Christina Abou Rouphael (Public Works Studio), who discussed the role of public space and data as art and crafts catalysts.
The roundtable discussions were moderated by Daniella Maamari, lead researcher & project manager at FHL (Future Heritage Lab)
Living Heritage Atlas was developed by the Civic Data Design Lab and the Future Heritage Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Living Heritage Atlas is supported by the Dar Group Urban Seed Grant Fund at MIT’s Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism.
