The recent Creative Dialogues series featured a vital panel discussion titled "Designing in the Aftermath," hosted within the historic and symbolic walls of Beit Beirut.
The session explored the role of creativity as a primary tool for resilience in the face of the ongoing crisis. This conversation bridged the gap between architectural theory and grassroots humanitarian efforts, drawing on five years of my frontline experience with Nusaned NGO to ground the discussion in practical, community-led recovery.
The dialogue challenged the traditional definition of reconstruction, shifting the focus from physical structures to the intangible foundations of a society:
Restoring Trust: Moving beyond building sites to mend the social fabric.
Preserving Memory: Navigating the delicate balance between honoring history and enabling progress.
Empowering Communities: Positioning local residents as active participants in the restoration of their own environments.
The panel was enriched by the profound insights and expertise of three distinguished leaders in the field:
Mona El Hallak, Nathalie Chahine Al Chabab, and Yasmine Dagher.
